In January, we decided that Zac was going to be more active in
Scouts. Scouts teaches good things and allows Zac to make friends, and
be involved in worthwhile activities. He is a Wolf now. To make it official, we went to the Boy Scouts store and bought a shirt, the Wolf
book, belt, and badges. (In February, Zac left his new scout shirt at
the bowling alley. Thankfully, I hadn't sewn on the badges.)
In late March, Steve and Zac made Zac's first Pinewood derby car. Zac was
somewhat enthusiastic. Steve and I worked on it more than Zac cared to.( I
learned that a derby car must be 8 inches long and weigh no more
than 5 oz.) Steve and Zac took the car for weigh-in Friday night and Zac was excited.
Well, the following Weds came when I realized that we missed the race the night
before. I felt really bad. Zac was temporarily upset too.
So far
we are really not great scout parents, but it has been fun for Zac (minus
missing the derby). It keeps him in contact with friends from church
and he looks forward to every Wednesday night (and the occasional
Tuesdays... that we usually miss).
