"Good-ole-fashion-family-Christmas"- Clark

We started a new family tradition this year. I guess Santa thought we were ready to have an Elf to watch over us this season. He came with a book, called Elf on a Shelf. Every night he flies back to the North pole to report of good deeds and naughty things, as well as let Santa know what we want. He has rules, like you can't touch him, and he needed a name the first night we met him. The kids chose, Frisbee. (who knows!). He returns in the night after his visit to the North Pole, and he finds a new place in the house. The kids have had fun waking up trying to find where he is.

Genuine excitement from Jenna

Jenna was the cutest about it. Trev doesn't really know what's going on and Zac isn't sure. The other day he said, "I wish we didn't have that Frisbee!" You all know why..because he is watching naughtiness!
This will be a fun tradition!

Saturday morning Steve, Zac and Trev went out for a Christmas tree. One of my favorite memories as a child was going with Dad to pick out a tree and cut it down. I even liked the ride out to the farm- about a 45 min drive.
We thought about going to a tree farm in Far West, UT to cut down our own, but Jenna woke up at 5am throwing up, and so they went to Lowe's to get this one. We'll have to try chopping our own next year. One day I think it would be awesome to take a 4 wheeler or 2 in the mountain and get our own, Family Vacation style...well maybe not exactly.

We waited till Sunday to decorate it because Jenna was sick, however we did have homemade caramel popcorn and watch Christmas Vacation Saturday night. Steve and the boys also hung the outside lights on the bushes. Steve and I like the lights as much as the kids.
This is Trev's handy-work. He made a pile of ornaments.

This ornament was sent from Aunt Donna for Gage's first Christmas.

See Frisbee?
Most the ornaments on the tree are from my mom and Aunt Donna. Some from a few friends. I love the tree.

Trevor, you little stinker!

It's funny that we watched the Griswalds in Family Vacation this weekend. We are trying to keep our chins up, and we certainly do want a "good ol' fashion family Christmas" like Clark...and like Clark we want to have our "little" outbursts...like when most of the lights didn't work, we discovered we lost my Nativity on the last move, and the kids were barfing. Oh well, maybe Steve's boss will show up with a bow on and give us a bonus to add a pool...or something like that! LOL. In seriousness, we are determined to have a fun season with the kids..that is what they will remember, right?
Here's a funny conversation from the kids on talking about Christmas.
Me: Zac who was born on Christmas day in a manger because there was no room in the Inn?
Zac: Jesus.
Me: "Who were his mom and dad on Earth?"
Zac: "Mary and Joseph"
Jenna: "Yeah, that's why we say 'Mary Christmas'"
Zac, agreeing: "Yeah."
