The Hamster Derby

As I have started back to work, we decided that we would do fun things as a family on Saturdays. Last Friday I was looking on-line at some events for that weekend, there was a Hamster Derby in Lexington that was free and sounded like a lot of fun for the kids. Steve wasn't excited about going and after a talk, here is why.
In my mind this is how I thought it would be: Outside in the sunshine and green grass there were cotton candy stands and snoe cones available. We would walk around holding hands on occasion, enjoying the day and our treats. There would be a line of kids holding their hamsters and on the fire of a snap gun, they would let them go and they would race down the track to a finish line. Kids were standing around the track cheering and jumping for their favorites. Saying "Look mommy!" Then we would hit Rally's on the way home before nap. (What was I thinking, the hamsters would have scurred away at the sound of the gun, never to be found by crying children if the race was on a grassy knoll.)
This is how Steve thought it would go: The kids would whine on the way there. When we got there, despite a talk in the van, Zac would run off. The baby would cry to eat. We would get snow cones and they would be spilled on their shirts and the nice lady's shirt next to them. Then Zac would excitedly hold a hamster only to progress to squeezing it's neck.
After investigating, it was inside a likely stinky pet store. The hamsters were in a ball and who knows what else. We didn't go. But we did have a good Saturday.

Too bad the hamster derby didnt work out :( the snow cones and cotton candy sounds excellent though. Who cares if it gets on their shirts...it means it was really good :)

I think you put the two together and it would be about right. That is why we need a mom and a dad-- Hopeful vs. Reality. I love Jenna's drawings. She is quite the artist!

Dad comes to Utah!
