So we had our Derby party Saturday. It was a lot of fun. We were glad to have 54 people! Thanks to those that came or wanted to come. We had a lot of food, some awesome hats, great company, fun games and prizes, and the race itself was fun to watch.

Lissa's hat was my favorite. I wish I had a better picture of it. She made it all from scratch- the bows, the flower arrangement, the veil, and arranged each individual feather. It was amazing. I told her that she could make them and sell them for Derby time. It was amazing!
We had fun. We hope to do it every year...

HOW.STINKIN.CUTE! I love the hats! I saw the derby at a restaurant, but only the little bit I could, and I was thinking about you guys! It looks like it was a blast. You look great with your light blonde do! Your hat is WILD! Did you win on your bets!? Gosh, now I'm homesick to have fun with friends and family like that!

We didn't officially bet- One can bet online at the derby website, but once you put in your zip and they see that you are from Utah you aren't allowed to bet! No gambling in Utah. It was also nearly impossible to find Raspberry syrup and bourbon for the Derby pies because there's not a liquor store in Provo/Orem. So we settled for grenadine syrup for the Mint Juleps and Virgin Derby pies. LOL
We didn't gamble amongst ourselves. Just picked a horse and cheered for him. I was rooting for Pyro, who lost badly. There were several pulling for Big Brown...(fair weather fans) the odds were so in his favor to win and he did.
The race was fun, just hard to have the energy and the excitement transfer from the field to the living room.

That's cool though. It's fun to root for a horse, or team, even if you can't bet. I had to totally laugh about the liquor thing...even making "virgin" things is hard in Utah! LOL. Oh well..sounds like it all turned out. You're so creative!

That looks like so much fun. You guys went all out! I know my mom was looking forward to it. Wish we were closer so we could have attended. That should definately be a tradition.
